Turkish visa no longer needed

Turkey will waive visa requirements for UK and Schengen area visitors from 1st March.

Visitors currently must apply for a visa online more than 48 hours before arriving at a cost of $35 (about £17) plus a $1.05 service charge. The online system replaced desks at airports issuing the visas on arrival, a system that operated until 2016. No checks appeared to be carried out at the desks – the “visa” was more of a tax than a check on arrivals.

The visa has been needed by all travellers, including children, so has added considerably to the price of a family holiday.

Passports should be valid for six months from the entry date and have at least one free page for entry and exit stamps.
